About Diane Baldwin
I’ve spent a lifetime chasing light and shadow.
Born in Los Angeles and raised in smalltown New England, I first fell in love with still photography while studying Film and Television at Loyola Marymount University. The infatuation was instant. It led me to the New England School of Photography in Boston, where I refined my technical skill and sharpened my instinct for storytelling on the street.
Back in Los Angeles, I built a career as a commercial photographer while nurturing a parallel body of personal work. That growing portfolio eventually led to my role as a photographer for The Malibu Times, where I documented the characters and rhythms of the small but culturally resonant coastal community known around the world.
Later I joined the RAND Corporation, a global, nonpartisan research institute headquartered in Santa Monica, California. As RAND’s chief photographer and resident “fly-on-the-wall,” my work expanded in both depth and scope and earned recognition for its’ ability to capture some of the world’s most influential and critical thinkers with clarity and nuance.
With over four decades behind the camera, my work continues to explore the interplay of light, composition, people, and place.
